Grow your own Green Onions
Regrow Green Onions
Did you know you can grow your own green onions using the bases you cut off when your cooking?? I have been using this to stretch our grocery budget a bit more so we don’t have to spend a lot on certain vegetables. No garden space needed!
This is the coolest thing ever. You can cut off the roots and put them in water. Then the roots will absorb the water and start to grow a new green onion. It takes a good 2-3 weeks for the green onion to grow completely so you can use it again, but it grows a whole new one!!!
You can also plant the green onion roots in dirt and let them grow as well. I actually planted mine after they started to sprout. Then I planted other green onion seeds around it so I will always have green onions ready for me to use when we need them!
I reused out green onions about 4 times before the base got to big and I had to start over. But the best part about these is that you don’t have to have a garden area to grow them! We don’t have a large area to grow anything in. The apt we have has no area to garden in and our back porch does not get much sun. These types of growing activities are perfect for our space!
What other items do you re-grow? How many times do you grow them before they can’t be used again?
